Have you ever tried to explain a math problem to a friend and struggled? I know I have. For my Fellows Project, I am going to be creating a tutoring guide, specifically for National Honors Society students. This guide will have tips and tricks on how to be an effective tutor to others. Each subject will have a separate guide, full of useful strategies. Next time your friend needs help with Algebra, head on over to mySevern and you will find a topic page with a tutoring guide, study strategies, and educational games for not only math but English, Science, History, and Language.
About Me:
Hi! My name is Samantha Shaener. I am a rising senior at Severn School in Severna Park. On campus, I am a leader of the Red Cross Club, a Severn Diplomat, and a member of the surf riders club. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, reading, and going to the beach. I am also a competitive dancer outside of school. Furthermore, this year, I was welcomed into the National Honors Society. As a member of the society, students are required to complete tutoring hours. I first thought of this idea for my Fellows project after I realized I would be tutoring fellow students and classmates. I was nervous and unsure on how to make the student feel comfortable in the tutoring workspace while also succeeding in the classroom. I did some research and asked my advisor for some tips and tricks on how to be a successful tutor before I started. My friends were also feeling the same way before going into tutoring so I wanted to create a guide for not only National Honors Society students but beyond. I am hoping this guide will help all students feel comfortable whether they are being tutored or tutoring.
