Over the past two weeks, I have finished laying out all subject areas of the tutoring guide into its final format. After I finished the formatting, I met with Miss Steppe to edit and review my work. We decided that I should make the guide more interactive. I am going to add in more visuals and activities for tutors and students. In the last two weeks, I have used the outlines I made this summer to put together the guides into the final format. I have the English and History guide finished, but it is still a rough draft and changes will need to be made. In addition, I have completed my research for educational games and they are now ready to be put into the guides. I am going to continue to put together the remaining guides in the upcoming weeks.
Over the past two weeks, I have not had as much time to work on my Fellows project because of my college applications. I have recently gone through all of Mr. Salinas’ research that he offered me. I needed to find what information would be helpful for my guide. The research I have chosen is now on my guide under the respected subject area. To continue, now that the National Honor Society students have started peer tutoring, I am eager to gain feedback on my guide that I can implement into it. In addition, I have also been going through books and websites finding useful educational games that I want to include in my guide.
Over the past month, I have made great improvement with my project. First, I have redesigned the cover pages for the guides, making them Severn colors so it can look cohesive with the topics page. There is now a link on the topics page to my guide for anyone to access! Last Thursday, I met with Mr. Salinas to review some research he has done that I can incorporate into my guide, specifically the English section. To continue, I prepared for the newly inducted National Honor Society students by cleaning up the outlines of the guides and creating a form where students can give their feedback on my guide. With the feedback I receive, I am going to alter and tweak my guide accordingly. Finally, I had two presentations I prepared for this month. I created a 10 minute presentation for my Fellows summer review meeting and a shortened version to present to the whole school during morning meeting. I spent a lot of time each night perfecting and making sure I felt comfortable with my presentations. Over the next couple of weeks, I am excited to have some people use my guide and see the feedback they provide me with!
As the summer has come to a close, I have finished up the first 50% of my project, which completes my summer goals. In this time, I have finished all of the outlines to my guides, one for each subject, along with all of the research that was done beforehand. Moving forward, I have a plan to meet with my Fellows mentor, Miss Steppe, next week to discuss my summer work and see what the next best step is. I am excited to present to the other Fellows and also see what they have accomplished this summer!
The past two weeks I have been working on my outlines for the History and English sections of my guide. While I was researching and figuring out the format of these guides, I ran into some problems. It was difficult to find information about how to tutor English and even History. I changed the outline for both of these subjects a little. For English, I decided to make it a resource page that holds helpful tricks like how to become a better and faster reader, and descriptions of writing mechanics and figurative language. Along with the outlines, I started designing what the actual guides will look like. Moving forward, I am going to finish up all of my outlines. Once all of the outlines are finished, I am going to bring them to my mentor, Miss Steppe, and ask her what I need to add, fix, and/or change to help make them the most useful. This is what the cover page looks like for each subject but the page headings vary for each subject.
I just got back from a four week vacation on Friday so the past two days I have been drilling my project. I started the outline for the math guide which I will have finished by the beginning of the week. The following weeks before school starts, I am going to work everyday to finish the rest of my outlines which will help me accomplish the first 50% of my project. Now that I am back at home it will be easier to work on my project and I will be getting a lot more done. In addition, after having a lot of trouble with my blog comments, I think they should be working now because I changed all of the settings to look the same way Miss Carsley has hers set too. Over the past few weeks, my time has been limited because of traveling and work. I decided that this would be would be a great time to finish my book. The past two weeks I have read and finished "Make it Stick". Along the way, I bookmarked evidence and information I want to incorporate into my guide. The book focuses on helpful ways to memorize faster and capture the material as a whole. The book also discusses misconceptions about learning and the difficulty of it. To continue, I am going to incorporate the research I found from the book into my guide over the next weeks.
The past two weeks I have started researching study strategies that I can implement into my tutoring guide. Throughout the time, I have found great resources and information but I have also come across some problems. For example, I had to make sure the articles I use are up-to-date, especially because a lot of learning strategies changed during and after the Corona Virus. In addition, I needed to break my research up into age categories because middle school students have a different work load and a different amount of out of school commitments to keep in mind. To continue, I ordered a book called, "Make It Stick", which was suggested to me. Moving froward, I am going to continue my research and get started on my new book! Following the Fellows Leadership Lab on June 8th, I was eager to get started on my project. I started figuring out the elements of Weebly and how to personalize my website. I had a lot of fun setting up my website, especially when I got a hang of the process. At times, it was frustrating when a picture wasn't the correct size, or my writing got put in the wrong spot, but now seeing it all come together is so exciting! Furthermore, this week and in the upcoming weeks, I am going to dive into my research for my project and learn more about how to be an effective tutor.
